A Considering Homeschooling workshop was hosted by Christian Resource Center of Grace Church Roseville and sponsored by MACHE (Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators) in Roseville on March 17, 2007. Over eighty parents attended and benefited from the expertise of homeschool veterans, Sheila Bien and Sandy Norlin, as they walked through the topics of Minnesota legal requirements, curriculum, record keeping, and the benefits of home education. Parents enjoyed the freedom to ask questions specific to their situations and received information to assist them in their decision to home educate.
CONSIDERING HOMESCHOOLING WORKSHOP PRESENTERS:
Sheila Bien and her husband, Jordan, have twin sons (now husbands and fathers) whom they home educated through graduation. For many of those years, Sheila coordinated a local support group. Sheila believes in the ministry of MACHE and continues to serve home educators through MACHE by responding to MACHE email inquiries, assisting with MACHE electronic publications, and serving as MACHE Liaison for Congressional District 3.
Sandy Norlin and her husband, Steve, live on a small hobby farm near Monticello. They have been home educating their 3 children since 1994. Sandy was a support group leader for ten years in the Monticello-Big Lake area. She has a passion for encouraging homeschool families to strive for excellence in the training, discipleship and teaching of their children. Sandy has been the presenter for the MACHE conference "How to Begin" workshop. She also serves as MACHE Liaison for Congressional District 2.
If you are part of a support group that would like to reach out to your community and network of friends, please contact MACHE for help in putting together your own workshop. We can provide you with help in setting up and promoting this workshop so that other families can be helped to make an informed decision about homeschooling their children.
