In Minnesota, home educators are addressed in MN Statute 120A.22 (as amended),
which requires that the local public school district be notified of your intent
to home school by October 1st of each year.
Although no particular form is required to make the notification, MACHE has developed a form for home
educators to use that includes all of the legally required information, without
including unnecessary additional information. Please see October Reporting Form at bottom of page.
It is our perspective that including information that is not legally required is not only unnecessary, but could be
invasive and possibly lead to additional information requirements, which we oppose.
We encourage all home educators to be fully aware of the legal requirements
for home education in Minnesota.
A full copy of the statute and an interpretation of it may be found in the MACHE Member Handbook, which can be
obtained from MACHE upon becoming a member.
The handbook, updated annually, also includes information and resources vital for successful home education.

Every parent must annually report Minnesota Statute 120A.24. (includes help for filling out the compulsory report form).
