Homeschooling has blessed our family in ways I never could have imagined! I didn't plan on being one of 'those' parents until my oldest was about 4 years old and the thought of sending him out into the world actually hit me. He was so sweet and innocent and I knew public school would eat him alive. Private school was not an option (and may not have been much better). The idea of homeschooling hit me like a ton of bricks out of "nowhere" and I knew it was for us even though I had NO idea what to do or where to start! MACHE was a huge blessing and, now, after 3 years, our family has grown closer, had tons of fun experiences together, and we've all grown together in our faith without even realizing it! It has NOT been easy financially, but I wouldn't trade these years for anything!
We had friends and neighbors
We had friends and neighbors who homeschooled their kids and I would always shake my head and say: "I could never do that". Two years ago, our youngest son - then in 5th grade public school, started struggling with school. We did everything we could think of to help him, to no avail. I fought the call to homeschool with everything I had, but the Lord had other plans. The only option to help this youngster was to home educate. We had no idea where to begin. Thankfully the MACHE annual conference was only a month away. We attended the conference and came home completely overwhelmed - but completely sure we could teach our son. With all the excitement, our middle son (then in 8th grade public school) asked if we could homeschool him also. Oh my - now we had to figure out how to teach high school. The last two years have been a challenge of a lifetime, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. We are still learning how to homeschool, but everyday we are growing closer in our relationship with each other and with the Lord.
Both boys still attend public school for 1 class: Band. Everyday, they see what their public school friends are dealing with and they always come home and say "I'm so glad I don't have to deal with all those issues." I'm so thankful also! I give all the credit to Jesus for pushing and pulling me until I finally obeyed. Our lives will be completely changed because of homeschooling and we are grateful!
blessing
I'm blessed everyday in so many ways! I love that I'm able to spend time with my precious kids each and every day. I know what they are learning and aren't learning.
My children are blessed because they get to know each other so well by spending quality time together during the day.
blessed by homeschool
This is our first year of homeschooling. My children are in 3rd grade and kindergarten. I love being able to spend time with them and watch their eyes light up as they learn new things. I thoroughly enjoy not having to catch the bus or get to school on time ( I don't yell as much!). I am certain that we will reap many more blessings as we continue on our new journey!
Homeschool Blessings
I never dreamed we would homeschool our children, I had never even heard of homeschooling until I was in college! My husband was always open to the idea. The summer before our oldest was to start kindergarten we knew we were not comfortable with the public school system, private school was not an option, and just months before the start of the year we lost confidence in the charter school we had been considering. Oh my! On August 1, we made the decision to homeschool. Fortunately, we had many friends who were successfully homeschooling. With help from these friends, homeschooling family members, assistance from Mache, and hours of time spent researching we were ready to start the year by Labor day. While homeschooling has been by far the most challenging thing that I have ever done, it has also yielded the greatest blessings. Our children are best friends and our family is growing closer together instead of being pulled in different directions. They are excited to be able to learn about their faith during school and I love knowing what they are learning. These are the relationships that will serve them well throughout their lives. They are receiving a top notch education not being forced to sacrifice their beliefs and values in the process.
