- Timers Needed for Region V Tournament
MN has been asked to coordinate the Timer Training for the Regional
Tournament. As we look at the potential scope of this task, we realize that
we will all need to pitch in and help time rounds when we are not competing
in order to make this tournament a success. (If everyone attends who
qualified, we could have up to 30 Debate rounds going at a time! This would
be 90 timer slots on Wednesday alone!!) We will have more information as the
tournament registration closes, but until then I wanted to ask for
information from your family. Do you have family members, parents,
competitors, or (mature) siblings who are going to be at the tournament who
would be willing to time? If you are competing in only one IE category, you
will only be in one track and could potentially help time during the other
track. If you are only in Debate, you could help time Speech events. And so
on.
Even if you have already spoken to me about timing, please email Carol
Mathews (markmn@gmail.com)
the following information:
Name of potential timer:
Age:
Have you timed before?
If so, what events?
Are you competing?
If so, what events?
Will you be at the tournament Wednesday?
We will then get back to you as we know what events are in which pattern
in order to come up with a schedule for timing. Our hope is that we have
enough volunteers from all the states so as not to overburden any one timer.
Thanks in advance for helping!!
- Region 5 Registration Clarification Letter
To Minnesota Regional Qualifiers:
Following is clarification about the Region 5 registration process.
Registrations must be postmarked by April 7th. Please contact Teresa
Hudson (
athudson@yahoo.com) ASAP with any registration questions you
have.
Dear Region 5,
Apparently there is some confusion as to the registration process for the
Regional Invitational. I am sorry about that. Hopefully I can clarify for
you...
There is a section in the registration that states:
PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY: The Regional Invitational is open to any
participant in Region 5 that has earned a qualifying spot through any
qualifying tournament or at any National Open during the current season.
A complete list of students and their invited events will be emailed to
you. Please check for your tournament invitation for all events before you
complete the registration form. Please do not register for events in
which you are not invited at this tournament.
This statement is normal procedure for invitational tournaments and
simply means that competitors should only register for this tournament in
events that they have earned a qualifying spot. If you know your competitor
has qualified in an event please go ahead and register for it! This
statement is meant to deter competitors from thinking that they can register
for anything they would like to compete in whether or not they have earned a
spot.
We are working as rapidly as possible to compile the reports from your
qualifying tournaments in order to publish a roster to the website, but it
is not necessary to wait to see this list to register. As soon as this list
is available for verification purposes, I will let you know.
Thanks for your patience and understanding as we all volunteer our time
to make these opportunities happen for our students!
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me! I would be
happy to help you.
Blessings!
Teresa Hudson

print the submission form from this link:
http://www.ncfca.org/downloads/pdf/NCFCA_Script_Submission_Form.pdf

- Volunteers 02/28/07
The following are positions needing to be filled for the 2007 MN
State
Speech Qualifying Tournament (March 23 & 24). Please indicate those areas and
times you would be willing to work by contacting
. Thank you so
much. This tournament is a group effort and everyone's help is needed and
appreciated!
-
Judges
-
We need everyone's help in recruiting judges for approximately 240 slots.
Community Judges can register here
-
Judge's schedule
-
position filled
-
Registration
(four people needed) -
Check off names as students and judges arrive. Hand out
information and answer basic questions.
-
Timer training
-
Train the timers primarily for limited prep categories (Apologetics,
Impromptu, and Extemporaneous) as well as other categories (experience preferred
for limited prep categories).
-
Hospitality (Judge and Tab
rooms) -
Keep the snack area full and
clean for our judges and tab room folks. Contact the food service if coffee
runs low, etc.
-
Hospitality
(Host homes/hotel info/restaurants) -
Find families in speech and debate who are willing to host out of town
speakers and/or guests who may need overnight accommodations. Knowledge of
local hotels and restaurants may be helpful. Roseville information and coupon
books will be available.
-
Timers
(several per round) -
These can be younger
siblings or friends who would like to help out. We can't minimize the
importance of this job, so these folks will need to be responsible and conscious
of where and when they need to be in a room.
-
Extemp Room Host (can
be divided among a few individuals) -
Experience preferred, but not
essential. This position requires someone to make sure Extemp speakers get into
the prep room at the correct time and are ready to present 30 minutes later.
They also need to monitor who goes in and out of the Extemp Prep Room.
-
Tab Room
(experience preferred and personal laptops needed) -
These important people are
the ones who make sure the judge's sheets are filled out completely and the
information is properly put into the computer so that results may be correctly
tabulated.
-
Hall Monitors
(several per day) -
Hall monitors are provided to help keep the competition
running smoothly. They are to answer questions as to the location of
competition rooms, restrooms, etc. It is their job to keep the hallways quiet
and make sure competitors are where they need to be. They will attempt to be
sure there is always a speaker ready to go so we don't hold up the round.
