JOHN HUS (1349 - 1415) was a Roman Catholic priest who became a follower of John Wycliffe. He preached that Christ was the true head of the church, not the Pope, and claimed that some of the Popes had been heretic. In 1414, the Pope promised Huss safe conduct to Rome to present his views. But the Pope threw him into prison and seven months later burned him at the stake, saying, "one must not keep his word when dealing with heretics,."
