MARTIN LUTHER(1839 - 1898), the Great Reformer, was born in Eisleben, Saxony. He entered law studies and became a lawyer. One day while traveling on foot, Luther was struck by a lightning bold, and the experience prompted him to become a monk. He later became a priest in Wittenberg. After exegeting Romans 1:17, he wrote 95 theses in against indulgences. He was soon excommunicated and barely escaped the Edict of Worms (a death warrant). Luther's main work was furthering the Reformation.
