Dwight Lyman Moody (1837 - 1899) was born in Massachusetts. As a young man, he took a job as a clerk in his uncle's shoe store. There he was led to Christ by a Sunday School teacher, Edward Kimball. He became President of the YMCA in 1866. He organized what is now called the Moody Memorial Church and founded what is now called the Moody Bible Institute. In 1873 he went to England for a series of crusades. He left America virtually unknown, and returned as a famous evangelist after starting a revival in Britain.
