WILLIAM ASHELY SUNDAY (1862 - 1935) was born in Ames, Iowa. His father died while Billy was young, so he was raised in an orphanage. He became a professional baseball player with the "White Sox." He was converted to Christ in 1886 through an outreach of the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago. After serving briefly with the YMCA, he began to preach. He was ordained by the Presbytery in Chicago. It is said that as he toured America preaching he brought a million souls to Christ. He is remembered as performing amazing acrobatic feats as he preached.
