Art is often lost in intellectual pursuits and Cezanne is a good example. These great artists knew what they were painting. They were deliberately influencing thought. Cezanne was clearly trying to produce a geometric world. Picasso followed in the same vein as he launched into what is called 'modern art'. In his painting 'The Bathers' people move from right to left and cease to be people, becoming symbols. Humanity is gone and man is now a 'thing'.
