SCHEDULE
SESSION 1 (9:30 AM) -- The Price is Right - Nancy Manos.
Volunteering to lead a homeschool group involves sacrifice ... and lots of it! We will talk about the various ways we pay a high price to encourage others in the home education journey and why it is a worthwhile price to pay. You'll be encouraged in knowing that the price you pay to serve is a worthwhile investment reaping eternal rewards. We will also discuss ways to keep wise boundaries, recruit help from others, and find a healthy balance as you juggle not only homeschooling your own children but also serving and supporting other families. This workshop kicks off some homeschool-related “The Price Is Right" pricing games for some interactive fun and laughter!
SESSION 2 (11:00 AM) -- Building Strong Connections - Nancy Manos.
Leadership involves communicating and helping a wide variety of people to connect. Nancy will share ideas to help you be effective using the tools you have at your disposal to communicate well with your group members, volunteers, and leadership team. We’ll cover social media, email, newsletters, website, and in-person networking to build strong relationships. This workshop begins with a fun game of "Win, Lose, or Draw" to illustrate how important effective communication is in leadership.
LEADERS LUNCHEON (12:30 PM - 1:45 PM)
SESSION 3 (2:00 PM) -- Healthy Leadership Habits - Nancy Manos.
Homeschooling your own kids and serving in support group leadership can be a recipe for unhealthy habits—neglecting your own well-being, putting the needs of the group over your husband and kids’ needs, or struggling to keep your own house in order. We’ll explore ways to tackle all of this successfully through healthy leadership habits. This session theme is based on "The Biggest Loser" and includes a fun introductory leadership-themed skit, plus a handout with quiz to help leaders identify the top 10 healthy and unhealthy leadership habits.
Teacher: Nancy Manos
NANCY MANOS and her husband, James, have two adult daughters they homeschooled all the way through high school. The Manos’ home education journey was a rich, rewarding, and sometimes challenging experience. Nancy is passionate about encouraging others in the homeschool adventure. Her heart is to share the joy of homeschooling, to share practical ideas, and to remind parents that with God’s help they can do this great work of educating their children at home. Nancy and James served together on the board of directors of Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE) for 13 years. Nancy continues serving the Arizona homeschool community as the Executive Director of AFHE. When she isn’t busy running the day-to-day operations of the organization, planning events like the statewide homeschool convention, training volunteers, publishing the magazine, writing articles, and speaking to homeschool groups, Nancy loves spending time with her family. Her favorite role is grandma to their first grandchild, an adorable toddler who brings joy and heaping amounts of fun to each day through his delightful antics and zest for life.
What You Can Expect!
Nancy's smile and enthusiasm are contagious! Come enjoy a low-key, refreshing, fun-filled day of learning and sharing.
Having served as the Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE) Support Group Liaison for eight years, Nancy has spent a lot of time visiting with and encouraging homeschool support group leaders from across Arizona. In addition, Nancy spent ten years running her own email network to help homeschool families connect and share information with one another.
This year’s Leadership Forum sessions will help you as a homeschool group leader to renew and revitalize your vision and focus for your group. Nancy will also share advice from seasoned support group leaders for dealing with a variety of issues and challenges unique to running a homeschool support group.
Nancy is going to lead us in some “Game Show Themed Leadership Workshops.” All three of our sessions for group leaders ... and don't forget the leaders luncheon at noon ... have a game show theme. Sit back and enjoy the interactive fun and laughter … and delightful encouragement … in MÂCHÉ’s 2018 Leadership Forum.
