Explorations Homeschool Co-op exists to provide supplemental educational and social opportunities for students in grades PreK-12 who are educated at home. Explorations Homeschool Co-op is designed to enrich students’ educational experience without providing a substitute for quality home education.

Explorations Homeschool Co-op is a biblically-based, Christian organization comprised of homeschool families from Grand Rapids and the surrounding area who join together each month to provide supplemental educational and social opportunities for students who are educated at home. In the 2017/2018 school year there were 39 families and 141 students in our co-op.

Co-op days are planned each month (generally the 4th Friday) of the school year September-April. Parents take turns teaching classes or bringing in community experts to lead a class. K-5th grade enjoy four different, 35-minute classes at each co-op. 6-12th grade- enjoy two different, 70- minutes classes at each co-op. There is a separate class for the pre-k and a nursery provided for little ones. Monthly field trips and occasional special events are scheduled to build upon what students are learning and to encourage a sense of community among members.

Currently, we meet at the Grand Rapids Assembly of God Church. Classes begin at 9am and end by 11:30am. Parents must attend co-op with their student(s).

Co-op teachers are expected to:
• Provide age appropriate instruction to four different groups: K, 1, 2-3, & 4-5. If a teacher is a parent of a pre-k or middle school student, they will be expected to teach a class for that age group.
• Arrive by 8:30am on co-op days to set up their class space (if more time is needed, they may arrange with a board member to come the day prior to co-op.
• Set up/Tear down their room.
Basic supplies are provided. Teachers may be reimbursed for supplies up to $10.

Co-op members will need to complete and submit the following to the Board: Participation Contract, Photo Release, Legal Liability Waiver, Homeschool Intent, Background Check, Statement of Faith, Student Participation Contract(s), and the annual fee paid in full. The annual fee is $45 per family + $10 per student. This fee is not prorated and is non-refundable unless a written request is made by 9/1 of the school year. Additional fees may be required for supplies or materials for classes, but these are kept to a minimum. Any additional fees for field trips or special events will be collected prior to the event, usually at the Co-op Day preceding the special event or field trip.
