Parent involvement and interest determine what we do each year. We desire to be a place of friendship and support to Christian homeschooling families. We offer a loosely structured setting where demands are minimal and all participants contribute. Friday afternoon is the focus of our group. We meet September through May from 10-12 for a time of play and fellowship. Most indoor activities (i.e. basketball, volleyball) are held in the Friendship Church gym but we also utilize outdoor parks (softball, soccer, and lacrosse) and other facilities (bowling, sledding, skating, and skiing). The organized gym time is for our K-12th grade students. This time is for students to encourage each other, play team sports and have fun. Kids with all abilities are encouraged to play. Parent volunteers supervise sports. We ask that each family volunteer for two time slots each year (typically amounts to a total of 8 hours for the whole year). Although actual volunteer time is minimal, it is our expectation that one parent will attend gym time with their students (Pre-K through 12th grade). This group is not intended to be a drop off group.
The interests of the group and the willingness of parents to volunteer will determine activities for the year. Therefore, we can not guarantee that a certain activity will be offered. Teen activities include producing a yearbook and a Service over Self (SOS) group that gives them an opportunity for volunteering in ministry projects. Parents supervise these events. Field trips are planned as interests arise. Volunteers coordinate and organize trips to various museums, theaters, concerts, and businesses. Families who participate pay any costs associated with field trips. Mom’s meetings are held throughout the year. They provide opportunities for prayer, fellowship, discussion and encouragement.
